How Do You Measure Success

People measure success in many different ways and on many different levels.  When setting goals in life or business, it’s important that we identify what success means to us personally, so that when we succeed we will know it.

How do you measure success in business?

For example, most people measure success in business according to their income; however this may not be an accurate assessment.  If your business efforts provide a substantial monetary reward but you don’t enjoy what you do, can this really be called success?

If on the other hand, if we were measuring financial success then income would be an accurate indicator.   Knowing what you expect from your business in advance gives you a way to measure success and to gauge your progress.

For you, being successful in business may include not only enjoying what you do but also creating value for others.  So in addition to being profitable and enjoyable, for you to accurately measure success, you would also need a way to gauge whether or not you are actually creating value for other people.

How do you measure success in life?

When we set goals in any area of our life, we need to determine beforehand what our intended results are and how we will recognize it when we get there.  Establishing ahead of time what success looks like and feels also gives us the opportunity to program our nervous system with the exact feelings that success will bring.

Having a way to measure success and keep track of our progress helps you to stay motivated and focused. When you know where you are going and how much progress you have made it creates anticipation and excitement. This positive energy helps you to take consistent action in the direction of our goals which multiplies your results. One feeds the other.

You get to decide how to measure success

Everyone has their own definition of success in life and in business. It’s not your job to live up to someone else’s idea of success. Your accomplishments and successes are yours, not theirs. And you get to measure success by your own standard.

You are the one who decides exactly what it means to be successful in any area of your life.  The time to make that decision is during the goal setting process.  Doing so will allow you to identify and celebrate each personal success along the way.
