This advice from Donald Trump has got him into trouble in the past but it also no doubt has prevented a great deal of other situations from occurring.
Shortly after the 2012 Miss USA pageant, the former queen claimed that the contest was rigged. She took her protests to Facebook, the Today show, and anyone else who would listen to her claims. In her claims, she said that another contestant got a glimpse of the five finalists backstage, which ordinarily would not be such an alarming thing. But according to Monnin, the list was available hours before the actual broadcast. She cried foul and turned her crown in as soon as those very names were announced.
A Sore Loser?
Some say that Monnin is behaving like a sore loser. What would have happened had she been named on that questionable list? Would she cry foul as she’s doing right now? She leveled some serious allegations against Trump and his organization, saying that the pageant was fraudulent, inconsistent and trashy.
Trump Fires Back
Monnin went too far, and today she has to deal with the ugly reality of her words. Miss Universe Organization (MUO) sued Monnin for $5 million the amount the allegations cost the pageant- and won their case against her in December 2012.
According to a New York Post, Trump said that Monnin’s accusations were false and reckless, and were only made because she didn’t win.
Monnin Doesn’t Give Up
In spite of the court’s ruling, Monnin filed an appeal to have the judgment overturned. During that time, she continued to make statements against the franchise, standing by her initial assertion that the entire pageant was a farce. According to legal minds, her case was doomed because she had no real evidence. It came down to her word against an established organization.
On July 2, Monnin’s appeal was thrown out by a New York court judge. He ruled that the Pennsylvania native would have to pay up the $5 million dollars to MUO for the damages caused by her malicious comments.
Miss Monnin seemed to enjoy her 15 minutes of fame because she kept up her crusade even after this second ruling. Instead of being mindful of future comments, she said that while she’s not happy with the outcome of the case, she’s happy that it’s brought attention to the nature of the pageant. That’s a large amount of money for anyone, but Monnin seems intent on sacrificing her entire future with her stubborn claims.
Would You Go Up Against Donald Trump?
This case teaches us all a lesson: Be prepared to support your claims with solid evidence when you make accusations against a reputable organization. Pageant organizers had a lot to say against Monnin. They claimed that she was not only a sore loser, but she also had issues with the organization’s decision to accept transgender contestants.
Today, Monnin has to raise funds to get the money to cover her legal fees. She’s paying a high price. Meanwhile, it’s business as usual at MUO.
